Dewey Martin

Dewey Martin (1940–2022) was a Canadian drummer and singer best known for his work with the rock band Buffalo Springfield, which was instrumental in the development of folk rock and psychedelic rock in the 1960s. Born in Toronto, Martin began his musical career in various bands before joining Buffalo Springfield in 1966, where he contributed to their self-titled debut album and the critically acclaimed follow-up, "Buffalo Springfield Again." His drumming and vocal harmonies were key elements in the band's sound, particularly on tracks like "For What It's Worth," which became an anthem of the era. After Buffalo Springfield disbanded in 1968, Martin continued to pursue music, collaborating with several artists and forming the band Medicine Ball. His drumming style, characterized by its energetic and dynamic nature, influenced many drummers in the rock genre. Although not as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, Martin's contributions to Buffalo Springfield and his role in the 1960s counterculture movement left a lasting impact on the music landscape, highlighting the fusion of rock with social commentary. His legacy continues to resonate within the realms of rock and folk music.
